The Little Teacher Who Speaks With Her Hands

Her father is deaf, so she learned to communicate with him through signs from an early age. What started as a way to speak with her father soon became something she wanted to share with others.

At school, Munira began teaching her classmates basic sign language, demonstrating signs and helping them understand how to communicate without spoken words. Her initiative quickly earned her a special place among her classmates, who began calling her the “little teacher.”

She later extended the lessons to her teachers, sharing the language she had learned at home and helping them communicate more easily with people who use sign language.

For Munira, learning sign language was not about overcoming a difficulty linked to her father’s deafness. It was simply learning the language her family used to communicate.

Her initiative has since become one of the projects emerging from government schools through cooperation between schools and parents, with support from the Ministry of Education.

Through a skill she first learned to communicate with her father, Munira has helped give her classmates and teachers another way to connect with people who use sign language.
