Qatar, Saudi Arabia Discuss US-Iran Escalation, Call for Restraint

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud on Thursday to discuss the latest regional developments, including the recent military escalation between the United States and Iran.

During the call, the two ministers reviewed the situation following the military exchanges over the past two days and discussed efforts to reduce regional tensions.

Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar's condemnation of the attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as unacceptable despite ongoing efforts to de-escalate the crisis. He said such attacks undermine confidence, threaten the security of international navigation, and jeopardize regional initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

The Qatari Prime Minister stressed the importance of all parties committing to dialogue and diplomacy while implementing the provisions agreed under the existing memorandum of understanding. He said these steps are essential to preserving regional security, protecting recent diplomatic gains, and strengthening stability across the region.

He also reaffirmed Qatar's support for all international and regional efforts aimed at containing the escalation, reaching a comprehensive agreement, and achieving lasting peace and security in the Middle East.
