Two Asian women have been referred to the High Criminal Court on charges of human trafficking, with the first hearing scheduled for July 20, following an investigation by the Public Prosecution.

The case began after a woman reported that she had been recruited to work in Bahrain but, upon arrival, had her passport confiscated and was allegedly forced into illegal activities.

The victim was placed in a shelter run by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking while prosecutors gathered evidence, including judicial assistance from the first defendant's home country, before referring both women to trial.
