As temperatures and humidity levels rise, skin problems become more common during the summer months, with heat, sweating and sun exposure increasing the risk of irritation and damage.

Dermatology, Laser and Aesthetic Specialist Dr. Ranya Kayed says common seasonal concerns include heat rashes, fungal infections and sunburns, many of which can be prevented through simple daily skincare routines.

She explained that excessive sweating can clog pores, weaken the skin barrier and cause itching and irritation.

Heat Rash and Infections

Dr. Ranya identified heat rash, also known as prickly heat, as one of the most frequent summer conditions. The issue appears as small red bumps and itching, often caused by trapped sweat.

She recommends wearing loose cotton clothing, reducing prolonged heat exposure and keeping the skin dry to lower the risk.

High humidity can also encourage fungal and bacterial growth, leading to conditions such as ringworm, athlete’s foot and sweat-related follicle inflammation.

“Drying the body properly after showering is one of the most important prevention steps,” she said, highlighting that moisture creates an environment where infections can develop.

Sun Protection

Dr. Ranya warned that ultraviolet (UV) rays are among the biggest threats to skin health, contributing to sunburn, pigmentation, dark spots and premature skin aging.

She advised using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, applying it regularly, and using additional protection such as hats and sunglasses.

She also cautioned against prolonged sun exposure for tanning, noting that it can increase long-term skin damage.
