Islamic Endowments Council Holds First Meeting

The Council of Islamic Endowments Affairs convened its first meeting under the chairmanship of Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Ma'awda, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Chairman of the Council.

During the meeting, Minister Al Ma'awda congratulated the Deputy Chairmen and members on receiving the Royal trust of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa through their appointment to the inaugural formation of the Council. He wished them success in carrying out their responsibilities and contributing to the advancement of the endowments sector.

The minister highlighted the Council’s important role in supporting and developing the endowments sector, enhancing its contribution to sustainable development, safeguarding endowment assets and strengthening their resources in accordance with Islamic law and the conditions set by donors.

Members discussed a range of topics related to establishing frameworks and general policies for the sector, with a focus on ensuring the sustainability of endowments, improving operational efficiency and strengthening governance, compliance and institutional integration. The discussions also addressed initiatives to build capacity and expertise within the field.

The Council further reviewed proposals to enhance the regulatory environment governing endowments and modernise related procedures and systems. These efforts aim to support best administrative and financial practices, improve the management and investment of endowment assets and maximise their contribution to the public good while adhering to Islamic principles.
