Bahrain to Enforce Summer Midday Work Ban from June 15

Outdoor work prohibited during hottest hours of the day

Bahrain’s Ministry of Labour has announced the implementation of Decision No. (5) of 2026 regulating the annual summer midday work ban, which will come into effect from June 15 until August 31, 2026.

Under the decision, employers are prohibited from assigning workers to outdoor duties under direct sunlight between 12pm and 4pm during the ban period.

Move aims to protect workers from heat-related illnesses

The ministry said the measure forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen workplace safety standards and protect workers from heat exhaustion, sunstroke and other summer-related health risks.

The regulation is also intended to reduce occupational accidents during the summer months, when Bahrain experiences significantly high temperatures and humidity levels.

Hotline launched to report violations

The Ministry of Labour has allocated the number 17873921 for reporting violations or observations related to the midday work ban.

Members of the public can contact the ministry by phone between 7am and 4pm throughout the week, or send reports via WhatsApp using the same number.

Violators face fines and possible jail terms

The ministry warned that anyone found violating the decision will face penalties under Article 192 of Bahrain’s Labour Law for the Private Sector, issued under Law No. (36) of 2012.

The law stipulates penalties of up to three months in prison, fines ranging between BD500 and BD1,000, or either of the two punishments.

Penalties may increase depending on the number of workers affected by the violation, while repeat offences could result in doubled punishments.
