The skies of Bahrain are set to witness the appearance of a “Blue Micro Moon” tomorrow, May 31, 2026, coinciding with the full moon of Dhu Al-Hijjah 1447 AH, according to astronomer Mohammed Redha Al Asfoor.

Al Asfoor explained that the moon will reach its apogee on the same day, placing it at its farthest point from Earth at a distance of around 406,000 kilometres. This positioning will make it appear slightly smaller than a typical full moon, a phenomenon known as a “MicroMoon.” He noted that the combination of a Blue Moon and a MicroMoon is relatively rare.

He added that this will be the second full moon of May, following the full moon of Dhu Al-Qi’dah earlier this month. The term “Blue Moon” refers to the second full moon within a single Gregorian calendar month and does not indicate any actual change in the moon’s colour.

The moon will reach full illumination at 11:45am local time, although it will not be visible at that moment as it will be below the horizon. It will rise in Bahrain’s skies after sunset at 6:46pm and remain visible until it sets at 5:07am the following morning after sunrise.
