Bapco Energies, the integrated energy company dedicated to powering the next generation and securing Bahrain’s long-term energy, has announced the launch of the NBH Future Energy Leaders – Scholarship and Career Development Program — a flagship national initiative aimed at nurturing Bahraini talent across the energy sector.
Aligned with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of Bapco Energies, the program reflects a sustained commitment to empowering Bahraini youth. At its core, it underscores the belief that long-term progress is achieved by investing in people and securing a pipeline of future energy leaders who will contribute to shaping the energy landscape of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Going beyond a conventional scholarship program, the initiative offers high-achieving high school graduates and bachelor’s degree holders pursuing postgraduate studies a fully integrated development pathway. Students will gain access to world-class universities and will receive comprehensive academic support, mentorship, hands-on industry training, and work placement opportunities — all tailored to meet the evolving demands of the energy sector.
The launch was held in the presence of distinguished guests, including His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy and Deputy Chairman of Bapco Energies; Her Excellency Ms. Stephanie L. Hallett, Ambassador of the United States of America to the Kingdom of Bahrain; and His Excellency Mr. Alastair Long, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Kingdom of Bahrain, alongside members of the Bapco Energies Board of Directors, senior officials, and representatives from both the government and private sector.
His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa delivered a defining statement in a video message, that Bahrain’s greatest strength has always been its people. Calling on the next generation to rise as problem-solving pioneers, His Highness affirmed that this program is not simply about education or training, but about making an unwavering commitment to invest in minds before markets, building the human foundations upon which Bahrain’s energy future will be secured.
Mark Thomas, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bapco Energies, said: “The launch of the NBH Future Energy Leaders Program marks a proud milestone for Bapco Energies. This initiative represents a direct investment in Bahrain’s future— bridging education and employment while equipping the next generation with the leadership and expertise required to drive the energy transition. We are focused on building a pool of high-performing individuals who will carry forward our legacy and shape the future of energy in Bahrain.”
The program is governed by a rigorous framework that upholds the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity, with admission based on merit, competence, and demonstrated capability.
Developed in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, leading academic institutions, diplomatic missions, and key strategic partners, the program reflects Bapco Energies’ role as a catalyst for building professional capabilities and its dedication to supporting a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and sustainability.
Among the program’s key strategic partners is the Crown Prince’s International Scholarship Program, whose collaboration reflects a shared national commitment to developing Bahraini talent in the energy field.
Commenting on the partnership, His Excellency Shaikh Mohamed bin Essa Al Khalifa, Advisor for Political and Economic Affairs at the Court of the Crown Prince, Board Member, and Head of the Financial and Administrative Committee of the Crown Prince’s International Scholarship Program: “The energy sector represents one of the most critical pillars of Bahrain’s future, and ensuring that scholars are equipped to meet its demands is a responsibility we take seriously. Our collaboration with Bapco Energies is a demonstration of what can be achieved when national institutions align their efforts — channeling the Kingdom’s brightest minds toward fields that will define its longterm prosperity and development.”
The launch of the NBH Future Energy Leaders Program is rooted in a legacy nearly seven decades in the making. As the first company in Bahrain to institutionalize academic scholarships and professional training, Bapco Energies has long understood that the strength of a nation is measured not only by its resources, but by the caliber of the people entrusted to develop them. This program is a continuation of that conviction — elevated for a new generation and a new era. Applications for the NBH Future Energy Leaders Program will open on June 15, 2026.
