Bahrain dominate GCC Games with nine-medal athletics haul

Manama: Bahrain's team continued to perform admirably on Monday, the sixth day of the GCC Games, winning both volleyball and table tennis as a continuation to winning athletics.
After a strong performance in track and field, Bahrain took home nine medals overall from the athletics tournament at Qatar Sports Club: five gold, three silver and one bronze.
In the women's 200 metres, Raihanah Garoubah won gold with a time of 23.23 seconds, Aisha Abdulla finished second with a time of 23.40 seconds, earning top two positions for Bahrain. Third place went to Dana Salem of Qatar.
Afterwards, Ali Haji added bronze in the men's 200 metres, just behind Abdulaziz Atafi of Saudi Arabia and Ali Al Balushi of Oman.
Bahrain also excelled in the middle and long distance races. Nelly Koriri won the women's 1500 metres in 4:22.56, while teammate Tigest Mekonen finished second. Bahrain scored another one-two finish in the men's 5000 metres, with Abdikani Hamid winning gold and Dawit Vikado winning silver ahead of UAE's Obaid Al Nuami.
In the field events, Noora Jassim won gold in the shot put to boost Bahrain's total.
The athletics programme concluded on a high note, with Bahrain's women's 4x400 metres relay team winning gold in 3:34.29, significantly ahead of Qatar.
