A teacher has been placed in pretrial detention after allegedly repeatedly assaulting a student with special needs inside a classroom at a school, Bahrain’s Public Prosecution said.

According to the Head of the Family and Child Prosecution, authorities received a report from Khamis Police Station following a complaint filed by the child’s mother, who accused the teacher of physically abusing her son during class hours.

The alleged assaults were uncovered after a school supervisor reportedly witnessed the incident inside the classroom and informed the school administration, which then contacted the student’s mother.

The Public Prosecution said it immediately launched an urgent investigation into the case, requesting surveillance camera footage from the school and seeking details of administrative actions taken by the Ministry of Education.

Prosecutors also heard testimonies from witnesses, questioned the accused teacher and confronted him with the gathered evidence before ordering his detention pending further investigation.

Authorities said the case will later be referred to the competent court once investigations are completed.

The Head of the Family and Child Prosecution stressed that protecting children, particularly students with special needs and learning difficulties, is both a legal and social responsibility.
