Bahrain Chairs GCC Executive Committee Meeting on Digital Government

Manama, 11 May (BNA) --- The Kingdom of Bahrain chaired the 28th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Digital Government of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held via visual communication technology, as part of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mohammed Ali Qaid, Executive Chairman of the Information Authority and e-Government, with the participation of heads and representatives of digital government agencies across GCC member states. The session was also attended by Dr. Khaled Matawaa, Deputy Executive President for Operations and Governance, along with several senior officials.

In his opening remarks, Qaid emphasized the importance of strengthening joint Gulf cooperation in digital government sectors to enhance public services, improve efficiency, and keep pace with rapid technological advancements. He noted that GCC countries remain committed to advancing digital integration as a strategic priority to build a unified and agile digital ecosystem capable of addressing modern challenges, particularly in emerging technologies and artificial intelligence.

The meeting discussed several key agenda items, including the GCC Digital Government Award aimed at promoting excellence and innovation in digital services across member states. Participants also reviewed the outcomes of a workshop on the first report regarding the implementation of UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed Bahrain’s “Unified Government Application for Individuals” initiative, which is considered a pioneering national project designed to improve user experience and enhance the integration of government services through a unified digital platform.

The committee also discussed preparations for the upcoming 10th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Digital Government, which will further support coordination and development in the region’s digital transformation efforts.
