The Shura Council’s committees advanced discussions on draft legislation covering employment quotas for persons with disabilities and proposed amendments to Bahrain’s traffic law regulating driving licences for foreigners.
The committee chaired by Dr. Jameela Mohammed Redha Al Salman, continued examining a supplementary report on a draft amendment to Law No. 74 of 2006 concerning the care, rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities.
The proposed changes seek to raise the minimum employment quota for persons with disabilities in workplaces, while ensuring roles are compatible with individual disabilities and job requirements.
Lawmakers also reviewed provisions that would require the Labour Minister, in coordination with the Social Development Ministry and the Civil Service Bureau, to issue decisions identifying government posts suitable for qualified persons with disabilities. Under the current framework, such decisions are optional.
