Bahrain is stepping up efforts to strengthen workplace safety, with authorities pledging tighter regulations, enhanced oversight and stronger partnerships to reduce occupational risks and protect workers.

Marking the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28, Labour and Legal Affairs Minister Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf said the kingdom is advancing a comprehensive approach aimed at building safer and more sustainable working environments.

The Ministry of Labour is prioritising the reduction of workplace hazards and the reinforcement of preventive systems across sectors, while continuing to update labour legislation in line with international best practices, Khalaf said.

He highlighted growing efforts to raise worker awareness about occupational accidents and diseases, noting that stronger awareness has improved compliance with safety regulations and better workforce protection.

The minister also pointed to the role of employers in maintaining workforce stability and implementing precautionary measures to safeguard employees, particularly during recent regional tensions. He said such steps reflected a broader commitment to safety standards and national responsibility.

Khalaf praised security and military authorities for maintaining stability, which he said underpins safe operating conditions for businesses and workers alike.

He underscored the role of the Occupational Safety and Health Council in shaping national policies and coordinating efforts to strengthen safety standards, calling it central to advancing prevention-focused strategies.
