Bahrain welcomes EU solidarity in confronting Iran’s aggression

Jamal Fares Al Rowaie, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations, chaired a United Nations Security Council session on cooperation between the UN and the European Union in New York City.

During the meeting, which was attended by Kaja Kallas, Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Security Council and regional organisations, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in maintaining global peace, improving crisis response, and enhancing preventive efforts.

In its national statement, Bahrain expressed appreciation for the European Union’s support of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, submitted by Bahrain in response to attacks by Iran targeting the Kingdom and other GCC states. The ambassador noted that all EU member states co-sponsored the resolution, bringing total support to 136 countries and reflecting strong international backing.

He also welcomed the growing ties between Gulf countries and Europe, including the first GCC–EU summit held in Brussels in 2024, as part of broader efforts to enhance cooperation.

The ambassador commended the European Union’s role in promoting international security, including its contributions to maritime safety and enforcement initiatives, as well as its humanitarian and development assistance worldwide.

Concluding his remarks, he emphasised the importance of continued dialogue between the UN Security Council and regional organisations to strengthen coordination and ensure effective responses to global challenges.
