Bahrain has stepped onto the global stage with authority, assuming the presidency of the United Nations Security Councilfor April 2026. This move is described as a defining diplomatic moment for the Kingdom.
MP Dr. Hassan Eid Bukhammas, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, said the milestone reflects Bahrain’s rising international weight under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He stressed that the presidency is not symbolic, but a clear signal of growing global confidence in Bahrain’s steady and balanced foreign policy.
Dr. Bukhammas said the achievement crowns years of consistent diplomacy grounded in peace, sovereignty, and non-interference, praising the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain in securing this position.
He pointed to Bahrain’s success in rallying international support to condemn Iranian attacks, citing UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (backed by 136 countries) and a unanimous Human Rights Council resolution (supported by 115 states). He described these as firm global alignment against actions that threaten regional stability.
He added that the presidency coincides with Bahrain chairing the Arab League Ministerial Council in its 165th session, reinforcing unified Arab and Gulf positions and advancing calls for an international peace conference in the Middle East.
Dr. Bukhammas said the moment reflects not only diplomatic strength but a nation increasingly trusted to shape stability beyond its borders.
