Zakat Al-Fitr is one of the important Islamic duties associated with Ramadan, and Muslims make sure to pay it before the beginning of Eid Al-Fitr. It is a compulsory charity that every capable Muslim must give on behalf of themselves and the people they support, including children and other family members.
The purpose of Zakat Al-Fitr is not only financial, but also deeply humanitarian. It helps the poor and those in need celebrate Eid with dignity and happiness, without feeling left out. At the same time, it purifies the fasting person from any mistakes or shortcomings that may have occurred during Ramadan, and it completes the reward of fasting while strengthening the spirit of social solidarity.
Zakat Al-Fitr is usually given before the Eid prayer so that it reaches those who deserve it at the right time. Many people prefer to give it one or two days before Eid to make sure families in need can benefit from it. It can be given in the form of basic food items such as rice, wheat, or dates, or it may be paid in money according to the regulations in each country.
This is also the clearest evidence of the utmost care for the poor, as acts of worship are used to bring joy to their hearts, relieve their needs, and share the happiness of the holidays with the wealthy and well-off. Through this, the community becomes like a single body, united in cooperation and solidarity. It is a mercy from Allah that He has linked most pillars of Islam with spreading happiness in the hearts of the vulnerable, the poor, and the needy.
