Bahrain Welcomes Historic UN Resolution Condemning Iranian Attacks

The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of a historic resolution condemning the reprehensible Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and several Arab countries.

Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the resolution reflects a firm international stance rejecting these unlawful attacks and demonstrates the global community’s commitment to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, maintaining regional security and stability, and upholding international peace.

Dr. Al Zayani explained that the resolution was submitted by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, coordinated with other countries, and co-sponsored by 135 states—the largest number of supporters in the history of Security Council resolutions. He noted that this underlines Bahrain’s vital role in defending regional security and the interests of its peoples, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a responsible voice for Arab and Islamic countries committed to peace, particularly during its non-permanent membership in the Security Council for 2026–2027.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the adoption of the resolution reflects the diplomatic vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This approach highlights Bahrain’s balanced foreign policy based on adherence to the UN Charter, respect for international legitimacy, and efforts to prevent escalation and maintain regional stability.

The resolution delivers a clear, unified message rejecting Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting civilians, residential areas, airports, energy facilities, infrastructure, and maritime navigation. Dr. Al Zayani described these attacks as heinous and unjustified, particularly given the sustained efforts of GCC states and other regional partners to resolve the crisis through dialogue and peaceful means.

He further stressed that the resolution calls on Iran to immediately and unconditionally cease attacks against neighboring countries and civilians, including through proxies, and fully comply with international law and humanitarian law. It also underscores the need to secure vital maritime corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb Strait, critical for global trade, energy security, and the world economy.

Dr. Al Zayani expressed Bahrain’s deep appreciation for the support of Security Council members and other UN states, noting that the historic resolution reflects global unity in upholding the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of Gulf and Arab states, while rejecting threats to their security.
