UN Security Council Adopts Bahrain-Led Resolution on Attacks in the Gulf
The United Nations Security Council has adopted a Bahrain-led draft resolution addressing recent attacks on civilian infrastructure across the Gulf region.
The resolution, Draft Resolution 2817, was introduced by Bahrain with the support of several Gulf countries and was approved with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China abstained.
Ahead of the vote, Mike Waltz US Ambassador to UN, expressed strong support for Bahrain’s initiative, condemning what he described as deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure across the region.
“These atrocities that we're seeing and deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure on ports, airports, energy production facilities, hotels and resorts across the Gulf are unacceptable,” Waltz said. “It’s disgusting frankly, and I for one am proud to see Bahrain lead its neighbors in action.”
Following the vote, Bahrain stated that the resolution reflects a “clear stance to reject attacks against our countries.” Officials noted that the text focuses on condemning attacks targeting Gulf states and civilian infrastructure.
The adoption of the resolution comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Gulf nations calling for stronger international action to safeguard civilian infrastructure and regional stability.
