Bahrain Chairs Critical GCC Media Coordination Meeting
Bahrain’s Information Minister Ramzan Abdullah Al-Nuaimi chaired an extraordinary virtual meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) information ministers to coordinate media strategy amid escalating regional conflict.
The session brought together GCC media officials to discuss ways to ensure responsible, balanced, and stabilising coverage of recent developments, particularly as Iranian strikes on several GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain have heightened public concern.
Oman was represented by Information Minister Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Harrasi, who stressed that the current stage required adherence to firm principles of Gulf media discourse based on wisdom, balance, and rationality. He called for reporting that prioritises unity and fosters public confidence in the resilience of Gulf societies.
Minister Al-Nuaimi praised Oman’s efforts under Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in bringing regional viewpoints closer together to support international peace and security.
The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination among official GCC media institutions and intensifying efforts to counter what ministers described as rumours and disinformation campaigns surrounding the conflict.
The emergency session reflects growing concern among Gulf governments over the information environment as tensions in the region continue to escalate. Ministers emphasised the importance of media in maintaining stability and promoting public trust during this critical period.
