He explained that many people gather at accident or incident locations out of curiosity rather than necessity. Unlike normal crowds, these onlookers often arrive simply to see what has happened, unintentionally creating obstacles for emergency responders.
According to Colonel Bahar, such gatherings can block roads and slow down the movement of Civil Defence teams, ambulances, and other rescue vehicles. In some cases, motorists stop their vehicles in inappropriate places or slow down traffic just to observe the situation, causing congestion that delays emergency services.
He also noted that people standing close to accident scenes can delay life-saving efforts, especially when injured individuals require urgent medical attention. Many members of the public do not realise that their presence may be creating additional difficulties for rescue teams.
Loud noise from crowds can also interfere with rescue operations, making it harder for responders to hear victims trapped under rubble or in dangerous situations.
Authorities further warned that gathering near fires, collapsed structures, or accident sites can expose bystanders to serious risks, including smoke, structural instability, or other hazards.
Colonel Bahar emphasised that the best way for the public to assist during emergencies is to stay away from rescue areas, keep roads clear for emergency vehicles, and maintain a safe distance from smoke, collapse zones, and other dangerous locations.
He stressed the importance of respecting rescue teams and allowing them to carry out their duties without obstruction, noting that public cooperation plays a vital role in ensuring effective and timely emergency response.
