Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, expressed shock over the recent Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and Bahrain, emphasizing the country’s commitment to diplomatic solutions amid escalating regional tensions.

“We were really shocked when the attacks were massively against UAE and Bahrain in the afternoon, while we were working with other GCC countries to express a collective position,” Al Thani told SkyNews. “Our countries don’t want to be part of this war and we want the attacks to stop immediately. We will always prefer diplomatic solutions.”

He explained that Qatar had been assisting efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States. “This miscalculation by the Iranians has destroyed everything. We were a glimpse of hope for diplomacy, and to be attacked by one of the parties in this conflict is deeply concerning. We will, of course, prioritize defending our country and protecting our people.”

Al Thani emphasized that Qatar has never been hostile toward Iran. “We have always tried to support diplomatic solutions and lift sanctions. The attacks are a huge shakeup for trust in our relationship with Iran. Our message to Tehran is clear: stop the attacks instantly.”

The Prime Minister highlighted Qatar’s ongoing efforts for de-escalation. “We will continue talking to the Iranians. They are our neighbors, and we want peace and stability in the region. Iranian people are affected by these turmoils, and we hope to see them flourish and live in peace.”

Al Thani also praised Qatar’s European partners for their support. “The United Kingdom, in particular, has been outstanding, supporting us politically and in supply chain matters. Our joint squadron and pilots demonstrate the strength of our alliances, for which we are very grateful.”
