Infrastructure projects underway in the Capital Governorate include road expansion and sewerage works valued at tens of millions of dinars, according to a written reply from the Ministry of Works to a parliamentary question.
The ministry confirmed that several projects have been implemented and others are in progress as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and support urban development across the Kingdom.
Among the largest projects is the expansion of Al Fateh Highway, which includes widening the road to increase traffic capacity, upgrading intersections and improving traffic flow in one of the capital’s busiest corridors. The project costs BD29.6 million and aims to reduce congestion while enhancing road safety.
The works also included improvements to stormwater drainage networks, road lighting and pedestrian infrastructure to ensure safer and more efficient mobility.
In the area of sewerage infrastructure, the ministry said a major project to extend the sewer network in Juffair, Block 324, has been completed. The project, which cost approximately BD3.47 million, connected several properties to the main sewer system and formed part of broader efforts to expand coverage across the governorate.
Officials noted that sewer network coverage in the Capital Governorate has reached around 93 per cent, while coverage in several developed areas has already reached nearly full levels.
Additional road maintenance and rehabilitation works have also been carried out in Adliya, including resurfacing projects and improvements to internal roads aimed at enhancing traffic safety and extending the lifespan of road infrastructure.
The ministry added that further infrastructure projects remain under study and preparation, including future works along Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway, as part of plans to accommodate urban growth and improve connectivity across the capital.
