GCC Backs UN Economic and Social Council in New York Statemen

Representing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as chair of its 46th session, the Kingdom of Bahrain delivered a statement during the United Nations General Assembly session, which received a joint briefing from the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Bahrain reaffirmed the GCC’s full support for all UN bodies, including ECOSOC, and emphasized the importance of pursuing meaningful reforms to enhance their effectiveness and deliver tangible results.

The statement was delivered by Ambassador Nancy Abdullah Jamal, Deputy Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York. She highlighted that, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of ECOSOC’s establishment under the UN Charter, it is essential for the Council to remain flexible in the face of global changes, to keep pace with international developments, and to respond to current challenges through multilateral efforts aimed at lasting peace linked to sustainable development.

Ambassador Jamal also highlighted examples of the GCC’s support for ECOSOC, describing it as a central platform for coordinating global efforts to ensure no one is left behind. This includes active participation in various forums and conferences hosted or facilitated by the Council. She stressed the GCC’s commitment to closely following ECOSOC’s work and contributing to its initiatives.
