Davidson Seals Dramatic Play-off Win at Egypt Golf Series Marassi

Wales’ Jack Davidson claimed a thrilling victory at the Egypt Golf Series at Address Marassi Golf Resort after holing a 25-foot eagle putt on the first play-off hole to defeat Spain’s Juan Salama.

The two players finished regulation play tied at 14-under-par, both carding four-under 68s to force a sudden-death play-off on the par-five 18th hole. Returning to the same hole, both golfers found the fairway with their tee shots. Davidson struck his approach into the centre of the green in two, while Salama’s second shot finished just off the putting surface.

Salama attempted to hole an eagle chip with the pin removed, but a difficult lie caused him to strike the ball heavy, leaving it short of the hole. Davidson then calmly rolled in his long eagle putt to secure a memorable win.

The victory capped a remarkable week for Davidson, who had opened the tournament with a one-over-par 71 before storming back into contention with a course record-equalling 63 in the second round. His final-round 68 included birdies at the fourth, seventh and ninth to turn in three-under 33, followed by a steady back nine and a crucial birdie on the final hole to force the play-off.

Speaking after the win, Davidson described the result as the culmination of a challenging personal journey. He said recent changes to his mindset and support team had transformed both his game and confidence, while the return of the MENA Golf Tour had provided a vital platform to compete regularly against strong international fields.

Salama, who led or shared the lead after each of the first two rounds, finished runner-up after another impressive performance. The Spaniard carded a near bogey-free round, turning in four-under 32, and said he took confidence from the consistency of his play despite the narrow defeat.

Scotland’s Michael Stewart finished third on 13-under-par following a closing 68. Czech Republic’s Dominik Pavoucek and England’s Curtis Knipes shared fourth place at 11 under.

MENA Golf Tour Rankings leader Chris Wood ended the week tied for 15th at eight under. Egypt’s Adam Elshamy claimed leading amateur and leading Egyptian honours for the second consecutive week, finishing one under par. Elshamy described playing alongside Wood in the final round as a valuable learning experience, highlighting the Englishman’s consistency and professionalism.
