Manama: In implementation of the royal order issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa declaring 2026 as the “Year of Isa Al Kabeer,” General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, chaired a meeting of the committee overseeing the initiative.
The committee was formed following a Cabinet decision chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to supervise programmes and activities marking the occasion, under the leadership of the Minister of Interior.
During the meeting, the committee reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the royal directive and ensuring that the year-long observance appropriately honours the legacy of His Highness Isa Al Kabeer, founder of Bahrain’s modern state and a central figure in its institutional development, who ruled from 1869 to 1932.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah praised the royal initiative, noting that it reflects the leadership’s continued emphasis on preserving national history and recognising influential figures who shaped Bahrain’s political and institutional foundations. He described the designation as a national milestone carrying deep historical significance and values.
The Minister explained that government entities have been tasked with proposing initiatives and programmes aligned with the importance of the occasion. Planned activities will span the entire year and include cultural, media, and community events across all governorates.
The committee also approved the formation of a follow-up working team to monitor implementation and review proposals aimed at commemorating the life and achievements of His Highness Isa Al Kabeer in a manner that reflects his enduring legacy.
