In an effort to streamline government support for the disabled community, MP Jaleela Alawi and several colleagues have submitted an urgent proposal to Parliament for the creation of a unified national digital platform in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This "single window" portal would serve as a comprehensive hub where people with disabilities can apply for services, monitor their progress, and handle grievances without navigating a fragmented network of different offices and websites. By integrating the Ministry of Labour, the Civil Service Bureau, and the Ministry of Social Development with technical support from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), the platform aims to provide a seamless pathway for everything from social care and rehabilitation to education and healthcare.
The proposed platform would act as a centralised job-seeking tool, allowing users to register, match with suitable vacancies, and track opportunities in both the public and private sectors. The MPs highlighted that the current lack of a unified system delays access to work and prevents the government from making data-driven decisions regarding the specific needs of this demographic. Furthermore, the proposal underscores Bahrain’s international commitment to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, arguing that this digital transformation is essential to fulfilling the nation's legal and ethical obligations to provide efficient, dignified support for all citizens.
