A Gulf national has been sentenced to two years in prison and will be permanently deported from Bahrain after being convicted of posting indecent content online and publicly insulting a citizen, the Minor Criminal Court has ruled.
The court ordered the sentence to be served immediately. It also imposed a BD1,000 fine after finding the man guilty of possessing and transporting indecent films with intent to distribute, and of keeping pornographic material within an information technology system.
Deportation
His mobile phone was confiscated, and he is to be removed from the country once he completes his term.
The case began when the Cybercrime Directorate received a complaint from a citizen who said the defendant had abused him on social media, using language described as defamatory and offensive to honour.
Investigators traced the defendant’s account and found he repeatedly appeared in videos considered contrary to public morals, according to the Public Prosecution.
