A concert by the prominent Bangladeshi rock singer James was cancelled on Friday night in Faridpur, located approximately 120 kilometres from Dhaka, following a violent confrontation at the venue. The event was organised to commemorate the 185th anniversary of Faridpur Zilla School and was intended for a registered audience of current and former students. According to local officials and organisers, the disturbance began around 9:30 p.m. when a large group of "outsiders" who had been denied entry attempted to storm the premises. When security and students blocked their path, the group allegedly began hurling bricks and stones toward the stage and the crowd, leading to a clash that left at least 25 people injured, including 15 to 20 students.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the organising committee, acting on instructions from the Faridpur district administration and the deputy commissioner, announced the immediate cancellation of the performance to ensure the safety of those in attendance. While the specific motives behind the attack remain under investigation, the incident has occurred amid a broader period of reported unrest in Bangladesh, characterised by recent attacks on various cultural institutions and artists. This environment has prompted several other high-profile performers to cancel appearances in the country, citing safety concerns. The local administration has stated that they are gathering information to identify those responsible for the violence.
