NIHR Hosts GCC Secretariat Delegation to Strengthen Human Rights Cooperation

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as part of the delegation’s official visit to Bahrain.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on NIHR’s mandate, functions, and operational mechanisms in protecting and promoting human rights. The discussion highlighted the institution’s role in receiving complaints, monitoring the status of rights and freedoms, and raising awareness in cooperation with government bodies and civil society organizations. Particular emphasis was placed on promoting and protecting children’s rights.
Both sides explored ways to enhance cooperation, exchange expertise, and strengthen coordination on matters of mutual interest across GCC member states, supporting efforts to consolidate human rights throughout the region.
The delegation also reviewed key achievements in advancing joint Gulf human rights initiatives, alongside various projects and programs implemented under the General Secretariat’s plans to support and activate the role of human rights institutions in GCC countries.
