Parliament yesterday passed an urgent motion requiring the Ministry of Labour to use a standard, detailed form at every job-seeker interview, filled in on the spot and signed by both the company representative and the applicant before any file can be closed.
The form would record the outcome of each interview, set out reasons for any rejection, and note steps taken in the hiring process, with a Ministry of Labour representative present as a witness.
Supporters said the change answers repeated complaints from applicants whose files were shut and unemployment allowance stopped without warning, often after claims they had refused a post.
Under the text, a file can be closed only when the applicant signs to confirm refusal. Roles that do not match a candidate’s academic field are not binding and may be declined without affecting the allowance.
