Bahrain funds 90 Arab renewable energy projects worth $113bn

Bahrain and four Arab partners financed 90 renewable-energy projects between 2003 and 2024, about a quarter of the region’s foreign-led total, at a cost of US$113 billion and creating roughly 22,000 jobs, according to Dhaman’s 2025 report.

Across the Arab world, the report counts 360 foreign-led renewable projects over 22 years, drawing more than US$351bn and adding upwards of 83,000 jobs.

Egypt, Morocco, the UAE, Mauritania and Jordan together hosted 248 projects, a 69 per cent share worth about US$291bn, or 83 per cent of the total value, supporting close to 68,000 jobs.

The UAE led by project count, spending and jobs. It took 57 projects, 16 per cent of the total, worth more than US$88.5bn, equal to a 25 per cent share, and generated over 16,000 jobs.

The ten largest investing companies together accounted for roughly a quarter of projects, 40 per cent of capital outlay and 38 per cent of new jobs.

By company, Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power led in project number with 20, or 6 per cent of the total.

The UAE’s Infinity Power topped estimated spending at about US$34bn, near 10 per cent. India’s ACME ranked first for jobs created with more than 4,000, about 5.2 per cent.
