Direct Link Restored: Gulf Air’s First Bahrain–New York Flight Lands

Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, marked its return to the U.S. market today as its first direct flight landed safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The milestone reconnects Bahrain with the American market after several years of suspension.

Starting October 1, 2025, Gulf Air will operate three weekly flights to New York using its state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The flights will initially operate from Terminal 1 at JFK, with a planned move to the airport’s new terminal in June 2026 to ensure a more seamless and modern travel experience.

The airline emphasized that the relaunch reflects its strategy of measured expansion into strategic markets, offering travelers through Bahrain International Airport wider connectivity between the Kingdom and North America. The move also supports Bahrain’s vision of strengthening its position as a global aviation hub and a bridge for cultural and economic exchange.

The announcement of direct flights between Manama and New York was first made during the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the United States in July 2025. At that time, Gulf Air unveiled its major North American expansion plans, with New York serving as a strategic addition linking Bahrain to one of the world’s foremost commercial and cultural centers.
