Bahrain-Thai Business Society Licensed
A Thai-Bahraini friendship and business Society has won state approval, giving businesspeople and residents from both countries a new body to build trade, tourism and social links.
Social Development Minister Osama Al Alawi issued Decision No 48 of 2026 registering the Bahrain-Thai Friendship and Business Society with the ministry.
The Society, based in Manama, will seek closer ties between Bahrainis and Thais and support work between the two countries in trade, business, culture, sport, tourism and science.
It will also work with Thai residents in Bahrain to build stronger social, cultural and sporting links with the Bahraini community.
Under its constitution, the Society can hold meetings, conferences and other events in Bahrain and Thailand, share information and expertise, arrange visits and encourage twinning between Bahraini cities and Thai cities and islands.
It can also support exhibitions and festivals covering trade, culture, sport, tourism and science, as well as exchanges of delegations.
The Society is barred from politics and financial speculation. It cannot join any group, club, federation or other body based outside Bahrain without prior permission from the Social Development Ministry.
Membership is open to Bahrainis and Thais aged 18 or over who live in Bahrain, are of good character and have an interest in business, culture, sport, tourism, science or trade.
There will be three classes of membership: active, associate and honorary.
An 11-member board will run the Society. Members will be chosen by secret ballot at the general assembly for two-year terms and can be re-elected. The board must meet once every two months.
The founders are prominent businessmen Abdulhussain Dewani, former labour minister Abdulnabi Al Shoala, Abdulhamid Hatem, Khalifa Al Rumaihi, Hanaa Kanoo, Khalaf Hujair, Waheeda Qorashi, Aziza Al Malik, Kanlayanee Mahima, Amnuaysilpa Srisawasdi and Wasuntara Pitakworachai.
The Society can draw income from joining fees, membership subscriptions, gifts and donations cleared by the ministry, lawful income accepted by its board with prior ministry approval, and profits from investing its funds under Bahraini law.
Its financial year will run from January 1 to December 31. The first year will begin when its registration is published in the Official Gazette if publication comes after January.
If the Society is dissolved, money left after liquidation will go to the Bahrain-Indonesian Friendship and Business Society and the MENA Investment Centre Foundation. If that cannot be done, the ministry will choose the social bodies that receive the funds.
