Event highlights humanitarian service, volunteer experiences and the principles guiding the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) marked World Humanitarian Day with an event at its headquarters in Manama, bringing together members and volunteers to recognise humanitarian workers and highlight the role of voluntary service in supporting individuals and communities.

The event was organised by Iman Al Khajah, Capacity Building Specialist at BRCS, under the supervision of Adel Hamad Al Jar, Board Member and Assistant Secretary-General for Committees Affairs.

The programme featured personal experiences from humanitarian workers and volunteers, alongside interactive activities focused on the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the different stages of a volunteer’s journey.

The event opened with an introduction to World Humanitarian Day, followed by a video presentation titled “A Journey of Giving and Impact”, showcasing key moments from BRCS humanitarian and voluntary activities.

Al Jar also addressed the gathering, while a longstanding member shared reflections on their experience of humanitarian service. A new volunteer offered a different perspective, describing the beginning of their involvement and the impact of volunteering.

An interactive session, “The Seven Principles with Friends of the Red Crescent”, introduced participants to the principles guiding the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Another session, “The Volunteer Journey: A Path to Impact”, explored the volunteer experience from joining BRCS and developing knowledge and skills to participating in humanitarian initiatives and contributing to the community.

The programme concluded with the recognition of several BRCS members and the presentation of membership cards to new volunteers.

BRCS said the occasion provided an opportunity to recognise the commitment of volunteers and humanitarian workers while reaffirming values including compassion, service and responsibility towards society.

The Society added that the event reflected its continued efforts to promote a culture of humanitarian service, encourage volunteer initiative and strengthen community participation.
