The recognition took place during the opening of the 42nd session of ICAO’s General Assembly, held in Montreal, Canada, from September 23 to October 3.
On this occasion, Ms. Al Shumlan expressed pride in the progress achieved by Bahraini women across various fields, highlighting the Kingdom of Bahrain’s continuous commitment under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, emphasizing the vital role of women as active partners in national development.
She added that this achievement reflects the sustained support provided to Bahraini women by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of the King and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women, whose efforts have contributed to the advancement of women and their recognition in international arenas.
Ms. Al Shumlan was selected from candidates representing ICAO’s 193 member states as an inspiring figure for her 30-year career in the aviation sector and her significant contributions to civil aviation at the national, regional, and international levels.
The honor is part of ICAO’s initiative to recognize women contributing to sustainable development in civil aviation.
