Teen Detained for Misusing Social Media and Targeting Person with Disabilities

The Head of the Family and Child Prosecution announced that the Public Prosecution has received a report from the Cybercrime Directorate at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security, regarding a 17-year-old girl accused of misusing social media platforms.

According to the report, the suspect allegedly posted offensive comments against an individual, and further lured a person with disabilities before publishing inappropriate conversations and photos of him through her publicly accessible account.

Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation. The suspect was interrogated and admitted to the charges, stating that she carried out the posts in pursuit of fame and to increase her social media following. The Prosecution has ordered her detention pending investigation and the extraction of data from her mobile phone used in committing the offense. Investigations are still ongoing.

The Head of the Prosecution stressed the importance of parental supervision over children’s online interactions, urging parents to monitor the content shared by their children to prevent the misuse of social media. She further affirmed that the Public Prosecution will not hesitate to take strict legal action against violators of publishing and online regulations, especially in cases targeting vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities.
