His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday issued a decree instructing the Royal Charity Organization (RGO) Chairman HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to supervise the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemen, where civil strife has left thousands homeless and without basic facilities.

The effort to save lives in Yemen has been flagged off by His Majesty’s benevolence itself and this Saturday, the largest single consignment of aid ever sent from Bahrain will leave for Djibouti from Mina Khalifa. The 700-ton aid cargo is a personal donation of His Majesty to the people of Yemen and contains essential medicines, dry ration foodstuffs, canned foods and tents.

An RCO Bahrain-Yemen Support Committee made up of representatives of the RCO, the Red Crescent Society, Islamic Association, Islah Society, the Ministry of Social Development and individual representatives has been formed with RCO Secretary-General Dr.Mustafa Al-Sayed as its head.

“His Majesty has led by example and inspired us to put our heart and soul into this project to bring succor to our brothers and sisters in Yemen,” said Dr. Al-Sayed, “The loading  first consignment of His Majesty’s donation shall be flagged off by RCO Chairman HH Shaikh Nasser on Friday and shall leave Bahrain by sea on Saturday.”

He added, “Over the coming days, we will open a bank account to receive donations for the Yemeni relief and the donations shall be used mainly to purchase urgently needed medicines and medical equipment with the help of the Ministry of Health for Yemen. The Ministry of Social Development has assured us that it will send out a circular to all NGOs, clubs and associations to donate generously to this cause.”
