Bahrain’s Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, has reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to expanding green spaces across the country as part of a national vision to protect the environment and promote sustainability.
The minister highlighted that Bahrain’s National Afforestation Plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035, is not just about greenery but about ensuring long-term environmental balance, beautifying public spaces, and building community partnerships.
Al Mubarak made the remarks during a field visit to the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, where tree-planting work is underway in various areas of the facility. He was joined by Eng. Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, Dr. Maher Al Shaer, Managing Director of Bareeq Al Retaj, and the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Yousif Osama Buhejji.
The minister praised the club’s progress and development under the leadership of Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister at the Court of the Prime Minister and Chairman of the club’s Supreme Council. He noted that the green initiatives will strengthen the club’s standing as both a sporting and tourism landmark in Bahrain.
“This effort reflects our national commitment to creating sustainable, beautiful, and environmentally friendly spaces, while also supporting the Kingdom’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality in line with global climate objectives,” Al Mubarak said.
For his part, Buhejji stressed the club’s ongoing support for national initiatives, particularly those that promote environmental and agricultural development. He said the tree-planting plan not only enhances the beauty of the facilities but also reinforces Bahrain’s position as a hub for sports and tourism.
Buhejji also expressed appreciation for the ministry’s role in driving forward the afforestation plan, adding that increasing tree cover across Bahrain will be vital in addressing climate change, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring a greener future for generations to come.
