Interior Ministry: Nearly 800 Car Fires Reported in a Year
The Ministry of Interior has stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the dangers of car fires and the need to follow safety measures, including regular maintenance.
Speaking on the latest episode of the ministry’s program Aman, broadcast on its digital platforms, Colonel Osama Bahar revealed that nearly 800 car fire cases were recorded in Bahrain in just one year.
He explained that the main causes of these fires are linked to neglecting regular maintenance—whether related to vehicle electrical systems, replacing damaged parts, or addressing fuel and oil leaks in the engine. The high summer temperatures, when combined with fuel leaks, also create the perfect conditions for fires to break out.
Colonel Bahar also warned against leaving perfumes, gas canisters, camping equipment, or electronic devices such as power banks inside cars, as they could ignite or even explode under extreme heat.
The ministry highlighted that it takes only about 20 minutes for flames to completely destroy a vehicle. However, acting quickly in the first few minutes with a small fire extinguisher—costing around BD 8—can prevent disaster and save lives.
The Ministry of Interior is urging all drivers to take any signs of danger seriously and to keep basic safety tools, especially a fire extinguisher, inside their vehicles. Officials stressed that awareness and prevention remain the first line of defense to protect both lives and property.
