The Third High Criminal Appeals Court has sentenced a 50-year-old restaurant owner to three years in prison after overturning his earlier acquittal in the Arad building collapse case that left two people dead and six injured.
The Public Prosecution had appealed the initial verdict, arguing that the defendant’s negligence led to the tragedy. Investigations revealed that a gas leak from the restaurant, caused by violations of safety regulations, triggered the explosion that brought down the entire building.
Authorities confirmed that the owner operated the restaurant without securing mandatory safety approvals from Civil Defense and used unapproved gas detection systems. The court unanimously found him guilty of failing to comply with safety and legal requirements, directly causing the fatal incident on February 12, 2025.
