King Hamad American Mission Hospital Performs First-of-its-Kind Advanced Surgery

A surgical team at King Hamad American Mission Hospital, led by Dr. Hani Al-Saati - Consultant in General Surgery, Oncology Surgery, and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, has successfully performed a pioneering procedure, the first of its kind at the hospital, on a man in his forties who was suffering from a tumor in the upper part of the stomach.

The patient had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain accompanied by severe weight loss and low hemoglobin levels. Following comprehensive laboratory, imaging, and interventional examinations, he was diagnosed with a stage II malignant gastric tumor.

The case was reviewed by the hospital’s tumor board, which developed a multidisciplinary treatment plan. The patient first underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by reassessment, after which surgical intervention was recommended to remove the tumor.

The surgical team performed a total gastrectomy with lymph node dissection using advanced laparoscopic techniques. The operation was completed successfully without any complications.

It is noteworthy that the patient has since been discharged in stable condition and continues to be closely monitored for his recovery.
