The government hospitals have announced the official accreditation of a new training program in adult critical care medicine at Salmaniya Medical Complex. The program reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to strengthen specialized medical training and empower Bahraini medical staff.

The initiative is part of the second phase of national programs launched to support the development and training of healthcare workers. It is being implemented under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Minister of the Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of Tamkeen’s Board of Directors. The program is a joint effort between Tamkeen and the Supreme Council of Health, with the aim of supporting 750 Bahrainis in the medical field, including doctors and nurses.

The newly approved adult critical care program is designed as a full four-year residency, set to begin in October 2025 and run until the end of September 2029. It aims to train doctors in the highly demanding field of critical care and meet the growing needs of hospitals in this vital specialty. Each year, two doctors will be accepted at each of the five training levels, helping ensure hands-on, high-quality clinical education aligned with the latest advancements in the field.

The program includes a series of advanced training modules in various specialties such as anesthesia, critical care, nephrology, pulmonology, neuroanesthesia, gastroenterology, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, infectious diseases, and intensive care radiology. These areas are essential in shaping a well-rounded critical care physician and in boosting the Kingdom’s specialized medical workforce.

The government hospitals expressed pride in the program’s accreditation, which they said highlights regional confidence in Bahrain’s growing healthcare system. They affirmed their commitment to continue expanding accredited training programs to achieve medical excellence and better serve the community.
