The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture in Bahrain has launched a comprehensive national guide to regulate the import, export, registration, and distribution of veterinary medicines in the Kingdom.

The aim is to ensure the safety of these products, prevent counterfeit or unlicensed drugs from entering the market, and protect the country’s livestock and animal health.

According to the Ministry, the guide will serve as an official legal and technical reference. It requires companies and importers to provide detailed documentation on the types of veterinary medicines they handle, their ingredients, how they are distributed, and where they are stored. It also sets clear conditions for pre-registration, record-keeping, and monitoring of usage.

The new guidelines introduce strict measures to strengthen oversight of the veterinary medicine sector.

Among the key rules:

  • Selling or promoting veterinary drugs online or through unlicensed channels is strictly prohibited.
  • Misleading advertisements or promotional campaigns without prior approval are not allowed.
  • Only drugs approved by the Animal Health Directorate can be imported, sold, or distributed.

The Ministry also emphasized that importers and distributors must apply for the necessary permits online through the official Ministry portal or by visiting the Animal Health Directorate before bringing any veterinary medicine into Bahrain.
