Parliament will vote on Tuesday regarding an agreement between Bahrain and Kuwait on ports and commercial shipping. Tied to Decree No. 91 of 2024, the agreement outlines how the two countries will collaborate on maritime matters.

It covers aspects such as shipping paperwork, training, and the handling of ships in each other’s waters and ports. The deal also includes provisions for responding to ships in distress and details on how to amend or terminate the agreement.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications stated that the agreement aligns with Bahrain’s existing maritime laws and will not incur additional costs for the state.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the agreement ensures preferential treatment for national vessels, sets guidelines for ship safety training and inspections, and strengthens cooperation in international maritime organisations.

The Public Utilities and Environment Committee has endorsed the bill, with all members in favour of its approval.
