In yet another show of aggression, Iran-backed Houthi militia yesterday targeted civilians in Yemen’s Marib using a ballistic missile, which the Arab Coalition said was “shot down”. “The Houthi militia offensive in Marib endangers the lives of millions of civilians,” the Arab Coalition said in a statement by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Coalition also said a launchpad used for launching missiles was also destroyed, according to SPA. Meanwhile, in a statement, Houthi militia claimed that they attacked “important targets” in Riyadh using four drones.

However, there was no confirmation regarding any attacks from the Saudi Authorities or by independent reports.

Rejected ceasefire

The Iran-aligned Houthis have rejected a ceasefire proposal made last month by Riyadh.

“The Houthis continued attacks on neighbourhoods in Marib, as well as its military escalation in the area, puts millions of children and displaced families at risk,” Yemeni Minister of Information Muammar al-Iryani said.

Clashes between the forces belonging to Yemen’s internationally-recognised government and the Iran-backed Houthis have intensified in Marib this month.

Oil infrastructure

Marib is home to one of the largest oil infrastructures in Yemen.

On Tuesday, a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militia fell at a residential neighbourhood in Marib killed one civilian and injured six, Al Arabiya reported citing local sources.

Iran has started enriching uranium at its underground Natanz plant, a report by the UN atomic watchdog said, The enrichment, a further breach of the nuclear deal, employs a fourth cascade, or cluster, of advanced IR-2m machines.

“On 31 March 2021, the Agency verified at FEP that: Iran had begun feeding natural UF6 into a fourth cascade of 174 IR-2m centrifuges,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said in the report dated Wednesday, referring to the underground Fuel Enrichment Plant and to uranium hexafluoride, the form in which uranium is fed into centrifuges for enrichment.
