Dubai Humanitarian Sends 74 Tonnes of Aid to Flood-Hit Nepal

Emergency shipment includes shelter materials, medicines, hygiene kits and winter supplies valued at more than $300,000

Dubai Humanitarian (DXBH) has dispatched around 74 metric tonnes of emergency relief supplies to Nepal following devastating floods that affected the Himalayan country last month.

The humanitarian airlift was carried out under the directives of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as international efforts continue to support communities affected by the floods.

The shipment arrived in Kathmandu on September 8 aboard a Boeing 777-F operated by Emirates SkyCargo. The freighter departed from Dubai World Central (DWC), carrying emergency supplies valued at more than $300,000.

The relief items included tents and shelter materials, medicines, hygiene kits and winter kits sourced from the pre-positioned stocks of UNICEF, the World Food Programme’s United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (WFP-UNHRD), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian, said the shipment would strengthen the collective international humanitarian response as flood-affected communities continue their recovery.

He highlighted Dubai Humanitarian’s role in facilitating the pre-positioning, transportation and last-mile delivery of humanitarian supplies, while also supporting coordination between international aid agencies.

Al Shaibani also praised the longstanding partnership with Emirates SkyCargo, which operated the special humanitarian flight to Nepal as part of the emergency response.

Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, said the airline’s partnership with Dubai Humanitarian combines humanitarian expertise with its global logistics network to ensure critical assistance reaches communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

The transportation costs of the airlift were covered through Dubai Humanitarian’s Global Humanitarian Impact Fund (GHIF), which is designed to help overcome logistical and financial barriers that can delay the delivery of emergency assistance.

The latest airlift underscores Dubai’s role as a major hub for humanitarian logistics and rapid international emergency response.
