Bangkok: A French man and his two young sons were rescued after spending more than 16 hours trapped at sea after their jet ski wrecked off Thailand's Koh Samui island, officials said.

The 50 years old father and his five and seven-year-old sons were discovered at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, after the jet ski operator raised the alarm when they failed to return. All three were wearing life jackets, but they were apparently fatigued and had eaten seawater.

The family was taken to the hospital for checks and then discharged shortly after. Authorities are investigating the reason of the sinking vessel, and the operator believes the family may have travelled beyond the agreed-upon rental area.
