Berlin: German police confirmed Thursday that a suspicious object found on railway tracks in Bavaria contained no explosives following a bomb squad examination.

Specialised units used a robot and X-ray device to inspect the item at the Treuchtlingen train station, located 150 kilometres north of Munich.

Despite finding no explosive material, Middle Franconia police stated they believe the object was deliberately placed on the tracks to cause a disruption.

Criminal police remain on site securing evidence from the scene.

Rail traffic remains suspended at the station, an important junction connecting major Bavarian cities including Munich and Nuremberg.
