345 Sick in US Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Mexican Jalapenos

Washington: A Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeno peppers imported from Sinaloa, Mexico, has sickened 345 people across 27 US states, prompting a recall of the affected produce supplied to restaurants including Chipotle Mexican Grill and QDOBA.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said 36 people have been hospitalised and no deaths have been reported. The illnesses were recorded between 19 June and 20 July.
Health officials traced the outbreak to jalapeños distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors, which has recalled the remaining affected peppers and is notifying customers. The investigation into the outbreak is continuing.
Chipotle changed its jalapeño supplier on 20 July, while QDOBA stopped serving the affected peppers on 28 July. The FDA said there is no ongoing risk to customers at the restaurants but advised consumers and businesses not to eat, sell or serve the recalled jalapeños from Sinaloa.
