Canada’s PM Carney Says He Has No Confidence in FIFA’s Infantino

Toronto: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has joined a growing international chorus of criticism against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, stating he no longer has confidence in Infantino’s ability to lead world football.
The sharp rebuke follows intense global fury over Infantino’s now-shelved proposal to open the World Cup to private investment through a commercial subsidiary.
Carney, whose country co-hosted the 2026 World Cup, condemned Infantino for failing to consult FIFA's senior management team regarding the plan. He noted that such governance failures ‘should be fatal’ to his leadership.
Calls for Infantino to resign have intensified since he abandoned the project. In response, the FIFA chief held emergency talks with directors in Morocco on Wednesday to contain the escalating crisis.
